ABOUT THE PLAY

The irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved, award-winning musicals.

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie Jr. features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome to The Crismon Theater Company's first musical of the 2024-2025 season! We begin this 2nd year with a classic family production! Based on the classic comic strip "Little Orphan Annie", Annie Jr. brings to life the wonderful characters generations have loved including that little red haired girl as well as Mr. Warbucks, Grace, and of course the evil Ms. Hanigan.

This delightful production that includes the famous song "tomorrow" as well as other memorable tunes, was chosen to really showcase lots of the young ladies that we have interested in musical theater here at Crismon. The production also is timely in that the plot rises to its peak on Christmas which is perfect for this time of year.

It also features another student director...Miss Harlow Placko....as well as a student Dance assistant...Mr. Nathan Prokop.

We hope that you and your family enjoy this broadway hit and leave with your toes tapping to all of the great songs this holiday season. Please enjoy our production of Annie Jr.

Sydney Smith

Choreographer

Sydney excitedly joins the Crismon Theater Company with more than 20 years of experience in the dance industry. Like many dancers, Sydney has been dancing since before she was able to walk and has continued her passion for dance well into adulthood. In addition to being a member of several dance companies, she was also involved in theater productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, and several original productions. Sydney also has a background in acrobatics specializing in aerial silks and hoops. Outside of the Crismon theater, Sydney is the head coach of the Crismon Pom team and has been coaching for the last ten years.

Sydney is originally from Highlands Ranch, Colorado but after graduating from the University of San Francisco with a degree in Business Management, she met the love of her life, Todd and they moved to Queen Creek last year to be closer to family. During the day, Sydney works remotely for her alma mater as the Director of Leadership & Reunion Giving at USF. If she isn’t working or coaching/dancing, Sydney loves spending time with her family and her cats: Theo, Maisy, and Bogey at home.
